Police published the following tips for anyone that might see the bear:

• NEVER pursue bears by vehicle or foot in an attempt to chase them from the area.
• Stay Calm – DO NOT RUN (running may elicit a chase response by the bear).
• Ensure that the bear has plenty of space and an avenue of retreat.
• If in a residential area remove all potential food attractants.
• If the food source is known remove it.
• Once the food is removed, the bear will usually leave the area within a few days.

Police also noted that the Georgia Department of Natural Resources will not relocate bears from residences where homeowners have intentionally attracted bears with food scraps and other attractants.
