A Year After Peeler Road Murders, Police Still Seek Help in Solving Case

Police have identified a person of interest in the crime, but are looking for more information

Friday is the one-year anniversary of the double homicide of Roger and Dorothy Abbott.

On July 1, 2010 Roger and Dorothy Abbott were found murdered in their home at 1962 Peeler Rd. DeKalb County Firefighters responded to a fire at the house and found the Abbott's bodies in the home.

Police said it was clear that the Abbotts had been murdered prior to the fire.

"As the one year anniversary of this brutal and senseless act approaches, the Dunwoody Police Department is again reaching out to the community and family for any information regarding this incident," said Sgt. Mike Carlson, in a press release Wednesday.

In December, police identified a suspect in the case.

"We've uncovered what we believe to be a person of interest," said Detective Kelly Boyer last December.

The person of interest, who the department declined to identify, is believed to be the main suspect, or one of the main suspects.

"We don't know if there are any additional people involved," Boyer said.

A witness described a male who was walking in front of the Abbott's home on the day of the murders. He is described as a white male, 40-45 years old, sandy red to brown hair with a slim to medium build (see sketch in story photos).

Boyer said the killer likely knew the Abbotts.

She said the crime did not appear to be random.

The Dunwoody Police Department has been working hard on the case, she said, interviewing witnesses, collecting evidence and checking out leads. The person of interest was a result of that work.

The department has been working with the ATF, Sandy Springs Police Department, FBI and GBI on the case.

The department said Wednesday that they are still asking anyone with any information on the crime, suspects or any other information in relation to the incident, to come forward.
