Area residents celebrate Valentine's Day home and away

Valentine's Day is just around the corner.

This year will be special for Dunwoody resident Tom McKinney and his wife, Sandy, who are attending a marriage enrichment group weekend in Mt. Berry, Georgia.  It will be held at the Berry College Campus at Mt. Berry, Georgia which is close to Rome, Georgia.

The program is called WinShape and the foundation was established by Truett and Jeannette Cathy, owners of Chick-fil-a.

Ten other couples from his church, St. Luke’s Presbyterian in Dunwoody will be attending also. Tom said that there were 40 other couples from around the country also attending.

“It’s a great Valentine Retreat for renewing of vows," he said. "Sandy and I are looking forward to this romantic get-a-way where we focus on our marriage and our commitment to each other”.

Nearby, the Dorothy C. Benson Senior Multipurpose Complex located at 6500 Vernon Woods Drive in Sandy Springs is celebrating Valentine’s Day with flair in “An All Red & White Affair."  Lunch will be served with live entertainment, dancing and more…they leave you with a mystery saying, “There might be special prizes in store!”  This event is Monday from noon to 2 p.m.  Tickets are $4.00 each.

I spoke with Sonia Foster, the Health & Fitness Program Coordinator at the center and she said, “We are also honoring ninety-plus participants this Valentine’s Day” at this event.  For Fulton County residents, this facility is free for 55 and older participants and residents outside Fulton, there is an annual fee of one hundred dollars.
