Letter to the Editor: Bob Dallas - Fill DeKalb Schools Superintendent Position Now

With two very solid candidates, time to act is now

Dear Editor:

As a DeKalb County parent of four boys under ten years of age, my family has a vested interest in the quality of the DeKalb County School System (DCSS). As a 27-year DeKalb County homeowner, the quality of schools directly impacts my home’s value and the community in which we live.  According to the school accreditation organization, DCSS must have its permanent superintendent in place by October 31, 2011 as one of the several conditions needed to fulfill accreditation requirements.  The Board has identified a very qualified candidate from Texas and we now learn State Senator Fran Millar has suggested Brad Bryant, the very qualified former DCSS Board Chair and former State of Georgia School Superintendent, is interested.  We have the right candidates right now and the time to act is now, before school starts.  If this Board does not act, I have no doubt the Governor will.
