Community Garden drawing votes in national contest

The garden at Brook Run Park is trying to get supporters to go online and help win a free fruit tree orchard.

Dunwoody's community garden at Brook Run Park is attempting to land a free fruit orchard to expand upon what's already a community cornerstone.

The free orchard is part of an Edy's Fruit Bars promotion to foster community through gardening - which matches up pretty well with the aim of the local community garden.

The voting is online and so far - not bad. The community garden's Facebook page posted an update Thursday morning. The group is currently in 9th place by a few votes.

"We need to just keep voting and adding voters … if we do we will be awarded our orchard in June then no more voting," reads the post.

So far, the local garden - according to votes - is well behind gardens in Kalispell, Mt. and Denver Co., but with 3,245 votes it definitely has momentum.

So, here's the deal. There are four rounds of voting, the first of which ends May 30. If you want to help out, go to the Edy's website and register with an e-mail address. There's a map where you can select Dunwoody's garden. Then vote for it.

If the garden makes it into the top five after round 1, then you've helped out the garden. According to the rules, you can vote once a day.
