7th TARTAN TROT PROCEEDS GO TO CHARITY

St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church (St. Luke’s) and presenting sponsor MINI USA will welcome over one thousand runners on February 2nd at the seventh annual Tartan Trot 5K/10K held at the Church in Dunwoody, Ga.

This one-of-a kind 5K/10K USATF Peachtree Qualifier race features kilts, bagpipes, and baked goods for the winners. Runners continue to consider the Tartan Trot a family-oriented favorite because it features a one mile and tot trot event.

This is a race that continues long after the finish line has been crossed.  Funds raised by the Tartan Trot are used for outreach in areas like Africa, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, the Appalachian Mountains of Tennessee and with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Stop Hunger Now, North Fulton/DeKalb Family Promise, local shelters, and food banks.

The first few days of February are important to the life of St. Luke’s,” said Pastor Jason Whitener. “February 2nd is our annual Tartan Trot race which raises money for charitable partners such as the North Fulton/DeKalb Family Promises network -- that will host its first guests at St. Luke’s on February 3rd .”

Kicking off on February 3rd, the North Fulton/DeKalb Family Promise organization, a network of 11 congregations, is dedicated to helping homeless children and their families. At Family Promise, families are able to stay together as the organization works to provide the family the resources to help provide a more stable foundation for their children.

Not all participating congregations have the financial resources to pay their portion of this amount, but really want to contribute their time and enthusiasm. The Tartan Trot helps St. Luke's be an anchor to get Family Promise started, sustained, and hopefully growing to two networks of 13 congregations within a few years.  For the full list of participating congregations and additional program information please visit  http://www.familypromisenfd.org/.

Space is still available for runners and volunteers interested in participating in the race.  To register or for additional information please visit  www.tartantrot.com.
