Five Things to Do This Weekend (May 6-8)

Baseball, Mothers, Art, Mint Juleps and Buddhism are on the weekend calendar

Welcome to "Five Things You Need to Know for the Weekend," a Dunwoody Patch column that sifts through the long list of events competing for your time to offer our pick of five things worth doing with your time off.

1. Cheer on the Dunwoody baseball team as it . The Wildcat nine will host a double header Friday with Flowery Branch at Dunwoody High School. The first game is at 5 p.m. Friday and the second is at 8 p.m. Tickets are $7.

2. Find hundreds of artists in your backyard. The begins Saturday morning at 10 a.m.

The festival brings local, regional and national artists, as well as food, live entertainment and a kids zone.

The festival will be held along Chamblee Dunwoody Road, between Mount Vernon Road and Dunwoody Village Parkway. Heads up, the street will be closed to through traffic from 2 a.m. Saturday through 9 p.m. Sunday.

The festival will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

There is a free shuttle that will run between the festival and a satellite lot at 200 Ashford Parkway (look for signs).

3. Learn more about Buddhism. Barnes and Noble Book Sellers is hosting Modern Buddhism: The Path of Compassion and Wisdom Saturday morning at 11 a.m. The talk will be hosted by an American Buddhist monk from Kadampa Meditation Center in Sandy Springs.

4. Buy your mother something nice. Sunday is Mother’s Day. If you are looking for local places to have a brunch, .

5. Bet on those horses, or at least drink a Mint Julep. Saturday starting at 4 p.m., the Dunwoody Tavern is hosting a . There will be a contest for best hat, and, of course, for picking the right horse.
