Von Maur Opens Saturday With a Splash

Just in time for the shopping season.

Von Maur, the upscale department store anchor that's been under construction at Perimeter Mall for a long time will open Saturday with a bunch of special treats and events for its grand opening.

The Davenport-Iowa-based store is compared by customers to places like Nordstrom and Bloomingdale's in that it carries similar brands and is known for good customer service.

The store has spread over the Midwest but has made a push into the south. A  store has already opened in Alpharetta. Von Maur is known in the retail business for its no-interest credit card, free shipping and gift wrapping.

Enough of the business.

For the grand opening, the store is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and features live music, entertainment for children, "designer events" and gifts with purchases, according to its website. People can also register to win a $1,000 shopping spree.

Check the websites for the specifics, but there are a lot of events going on and the above is a summary. For instance they will have a magician roaming the store, as well as face painters and balloon artists to keep kids entertained.

Olivia Culpo, Miss USA 2012, will make an appearance in the shoe department on behalf of Chinese Laundry. Designer Daniel Dolce will also be in the store.
