Readers Sound Off on Right-Wing Restaurants List -- Do You Agree?

Two Atlanta area chains -- Waffle House and Chick-fil-A -- have made a website's list of 5 right-wing restaurants. And Patch readers have weighed in with their views.

Two Georgia-based fast-food chains -- Waffle House and Chick-fil-A -- top a new list on Salon.com about “right-wing food companies.” And Patch readers have weighed in on the label.

Some readers support the companies, some disagree with the owners' views but still spend their money with the chains, and others criticized some of the two chains' business practices.

Author and Alternet blogger Lauren Kelley calls the owners of Norcross-based Waffle House and Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A “far right-wingers who have spent “significant money opposing gay rights, abortion rights, and other important causes and funding attack ads against left-leaning politicians.”

Do the anti-abortion, anti-gay rights views of these restaurant companies influence how you spend your money? Tell us in comments.

Patch asked readers if the views of the company leaders are a reason for you to spend your money with the restaurants, or give your dollars to another chain.

Here's a sampling of the more than 100 comments on the original story so far.

Patch reader Ron wrote: "I don't have the same bigoted views as the owners of those restaurants but I do still eat there. They are entitled to their views even if their views aren't based on tolerance, logic, equal rights, or science."

ken owens said: "Typical attack by the left on anyone that DARES think differently than they do. Freedom of thought and expression is one of the cornerstones of our country and a rarity in the world. The left wants everyone to march in lockstep with what ever political agenda they squeak about."

Erin T. McLaughlin posted: "A true American action is to simply boycott those companies that you don't support the beliefs of."

Bd Cat said: "Left wing, right wing, "chicken wing", each has a right to their opinion and beliefs. Leave the politics out of choice of food establishments. If you do not want to eat there ,don't."

Tim says: "I'll continue to patronize both because I believe the same."

And Brian posts: "Unacceptable. Hobby Lobby is another. They need to pander to metro ATL more and be politically neutral. Otherwise, we should boycott them."
