Massive Mixed-Use Project Coming Near Perimeter Mall

State Farm, which plans to add about 3,000 jobs in the next decade, to headline 17-acre site in the Perimeter Center area of Dunwoody.

A Texas-based major developer and insurance giant State Farm announced plans Friday for a massive 17-acre site in the Perimeter Center area of Dunwoody that when completed will represent one of the largest corporate office developments in the history of the metro area.

KDC’s transit-oriented development will include 2.2 million square feet of office space, 100,000 square feet of retail, restaurants and entertainment, and a 200-room select service hotel.

Illinois-based State Farm will be leasing 585,000 square feet of office space and plans to add additional buildings over the next 10 years. The company currently employs nearly 5,000 people in the Atlanta metro area and says it will hire approximately 3,000 more employees in the next decade.

KDC’s first office building, to be leased by State Farm, will be constructed on a nearly 4-acre site at Hammond Drive and Perimeter Center Parkway where Chequer’s Seafood Grill restaurant is currently located.

Construction of the building, which will connect to the Dunwoody MARTA station, is set to begin this summer. Previously, State Farm had purchased the adjacent Hammond Exchange building and 13 acres of surrounding undeveloped property.

“We are excited to be considering an expansion in the Dunwoody community as we position State Farm to better serve communities across the US,” Mary Crego, senior vice president of State Farm, said in a news release. “This expansion positions State Farm for the future as we grow to meet changing customer needs and expectations.”

A representative of Dallas-based KDC said the company was excited about the prospects of creating a “transit-oriented development in Dunwoody.”

“This project will provide State Farm’s work force a continued platform for success with direct access to a true live-work-play environment and a MARTA station,” said KDC Division President Larry Wilson in a press release.
