Though commonly thought of as "Mexican Independence Day", Cinco de Mayo actually celebrates a Mexican victory against the French in a battle taking place on May 5, 1862. On Cinco de Mayo, everyone can claim Mexican heritage and celebrate with live music, food specials and, of course, cold beer, tequila and margaritas.
