Elected for 2012 were Chamber Officers: Don Boyken, Chairman of the Board; Paula Owens, Vice-Chairman; Donna A. Mahaffey, Treasurer; and Dr. Jeffrey Priluck, Secretary. The officers took their positions immediately following the election.

Boyken takes over for Bill Grant, who was the chairman for the last two years.

Grant is credited with getting the Chamber off to a strong start strategically and financially.

The chamber said under Grant’s leadership, the Chamber helped promote business through legislative action, building relationships with the city and helping with several local issues including:

◦   The alcohol laws, pouring licensing and timing.

◦   The formation of the Convention and Visitor Bureau.

◦   The revision of the sign ordinance.

◦   The building permit costs, which were reduced for residential building permits by 25 percent.

The chamber, in a press release, also noted several monthly activities that are now a part of the chamber’s calendar, including networking events, young professionals events and the Dunwoody Chamber in Heels luncheon.

Following his election, Boyken outlined areas on which he wants the Chamber to focus in the coming year, the Chamber said in a press release. They include: Membership Development, including training opportunities for member company representatives, collaborative business development and transportation issues. Dunwoody, Boyken said has a “daytime population” much greater than the resident population and provides tremendous opportunity for the Chamber for strengthening and growth.
