Von Maur, an upscale department store, will move into the mall and open in the fall of 2012, General Growth Properties, which owns Perimeter Mall, announced Thursday.

"Our shoppers expect only the best in retail, dining, and above all, unparalleled customer service," said Richard Pesin, executive vice president of anchors and development for General Growth Properties, Inc., in a press release. "Von Maur combines exceptional customer service with brand-name and high-quality merchandise in an aesthetically pleasing environment to create a shopping experience like no other. Adding Von Maur to the retail line-up of Perimeter Mall further solidifies Perimeter Mall as a premier shopping destination for all of Atlanta."

Dunwoody's Director of Economic Development Michael Starling said the move shows that vacant retail space in the area doesn't sit on the market very long in the area.

“There are very few cities or locations in the metropolitan Atlanta area which can draw high-quality retailers such as Von Maur," he said, in a press release. "As the City grows and more and more businesses open up their doors in Dunwoody, it not only expands the City’s tax base but also supports a broad array of employment opportunities.”

The company has 26 stores across the country, with one already in Georgia at Alpharetta's. That mall is also owned by General Growth Properties.

Von Maur opened its first store in Davenport, Iowa in 1872. It also has stores in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska and Ohio.
