Residents Discuss New Park Beneath Dunwoody MARTA Tracks

Public listens to proposal for land underneath MARTA tracks north of Dunwoody Station.

Representatives of the Perimeter Central Improvement District held a public meeting Tuesday, April 22 to discuss the possibility of a park on the parcel of land underneath the elevated MARTA tracks north of the Dunwoody station, according to Reporter Newspapers.

“The one missing ingredient in the Perimeter is there’s not a lot of greenspace,” PCIDs President and Chief Executive Officer Yvonne Williams told the group, per the Reporter. “Under the MARTA rails, believe it or not, there’s 5 acres of opportunity there for greenspace and, more importantly, a place to gather.”

Consultant Ben Skidmore said the proposed park, which is a little larger than Woodruff Park in Atlanta, would cover about as much ground as the 11th hole at the Augusta National Golf Club.

“It’s a great idea,” Dunwoody City Councilman Jim Riticher said, according to the Reporter. “It’s been that empty land that’s been nothing behind a chain-link fence since MARTA was built.”

A second meeting to discuss for the park has been scheduled for Thursday, May 29.
