Community Corner

Marcus Jewish Community Center to Host Holocaust Remembrance April 27

Ceremony will feature remarks from local attorney and judge Jim Barfield and an original musical composition.

The entire community is invited to a Yom HaShoah Commemoration Sunday, April 27 from 4 to 6 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Atlanta Rabbinical Association, the Consulate General of Israel and the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta.

The ceremony will feature remarks from Jim Barfield, author, local attorney and Juvenile Court Associate Judge. Barfield’s popular book, “Boxcars” tells the story of two Jewish teens in 1944 Europe. It was featured at the 2012 Atlanta Jewish Book Festival.

His presentation will also include an original musical composition written especially for this occasion. A highlight of the program is the lighting of the Six Torches in memory of the light of six million people, which was extinguished in the Holocaust.

The ceremony will take place in the Besser Holocaust Memorial Garden at the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta located at 5342 Tilly Mill Road in Dunwoody.
