Community Garden Plants Orchard at Brook Run Park

After months of online campaigning, trees arrived and were being planted Friday by volunteers of the community garden.

It's a reality.

From an online contest won by the Dunwooody Community Garden to a real-deal fruit orchard that hopefully will produce fruit for decades.

A now-planted apple - an Arkansas Black - will be among 26 trees surrounding the community garden in Brook Run Park. (It's the tree in the photo.)

The planting was part of a ceremony that drew more than 50 people - including city officials who helped make it happen.

But this wasn't just a golden shovel event, as you can see by the photo. After the pomp and circumstance, the trees were going to be planted with the help of an arborist.
