Team Rubicon Taps Dunwoody Grad to Lead Western Division

Appointment comes as vet-led nonprofit experiences rapid growth

Team Rubicon, a disaster relief organization which unites the skills of military veterans with first responders, is pleased to name Nicole Green, a 1998 graduate of Dunwoody High School, as its first division administrator for the newly-created Division III, which encompasses much of the western United States.

A graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and former Air Force intelligence officer, Green most recently was Team Rubicon’s director of division administration. Green's parents, Philip and Elena, still reside in Dunwoody.

“I am ecstatic about leading this division,” said Green, who now resides in El Segundo, Calif. “Team Rubicon has been an incredible part of my life and I look forward to expanding our ability to support veteran reintegration and disaster relief.”

In her new role, Green will develop and execute strategy at the divisional level and provide significant input to national strategy that reflects the needs of the regions. She will work closely with regional administrators to recruit, engage, and retain volunteers.

“Our vision is to bring a Veteran Emergency Response Team to every zip code. Building divisions allows us to keep the speed and agility we're known for while growing and empowering operations at the lowest possible level,” said Green.

Headquartered in Los Angeles, Team Rubicon has volunteers grouped in ten regions across the country (modeled after FEMA regions). The nonprofit has experienced explosive growth—from a team of eight to more than 16,000 members—since its founding in 2010.

Three divisions were recently created to decentralize control and better empower the regions. Division III will be headquartered in Los Angeles, and is currently made up of three regions. Region VIII serves Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming; Reg. IX: Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada and the Pacific Islands; Reg. X: Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington.

Division I is located in Washington, D.C., and Division II will be based in Dallas.

“Nicole is smart, compassionate and her insight helped shape this new model,” said Jake Wood, CEO and cofounder of Team Rubicon. “She’s been a trusted member of the team for the past few years and has demonstrated a great capacity to lead and inspire our members.”

Team Rubicon was founded in the wake of the 2010 Haiti Earthquake by Wood and William McNulty, both Marine veterans. It now has more than 60 operations under its belt, including Haiti, Superstorm Sandy, and Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

The nonprofit has responded to more than a dozen tornadoes and floods this year. Beyond disaster relief, Team Rubicon helps veterans find a renewed sense of purpose—vital as many return to civilian life after more than a decade of war.

While in the Air Force, Green helped establish initial air operations at Balad Air Base, Iraq, in 2003. Following her service, she worked as a consultant with Deloitte and conducted new venture, market entry analysis for business opportunities in Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.

Green holds a master’s degree in diplomacy from Norwich University, and a bachelor’s in political science from the U.S. Air Force Academy.
