Atlanta Vietnam veterans to Honor Atlanta soldier

The Atlanta Vietnam Veterans Business Association announces the 2014 dedication of its Vietnam Memorial to honor the memory of Corporal Harry Kenneth Vaughan, U.S. Army, a native of the Hopewell Community and a graduate of Milton High School. At the age of 20, CPL Vaughan made the ultimate sacrifice for his country during heroic actions on 7 March 1968 in Bien Hoa Province in the Republic of Vietnam, while serving with the 9th Infantry Division. For his actions in battle, CPL Vaughan was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.

 

The public is invited to attend the ceremony to be held on Thursday, May 22, at the Milton High School, 13025 Birmingham Way, Milton, GA 30004. Family and friends will be in attendance.

This AVVBA-sponsored program will begin at 11:00 a.m. with a U.S. Army Band from Fort Benning, Ga., followed by other events including military aircraft flyovers, U.S. Secretary of The Veterans Affairs and retired General Eric K. Shinseki as guest speaker, who also served with the 9th Infantry Division in Vietnam. These events will precede the dedication of the memorial to CPL Harry Kenneth Vaughan.
