Oversight Team Looking at DeKalb Schools

SACS has returned to the DeKalb school district after complaints of board mismanagement.

An oversight agency has arrived at DeKalb County schools to scrutinize how the district operates, 11 Alive reports.

The oversight agency, SACS, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, responded to complaints from the public about school board mismanagement around the time it passed a budget this summer.

The board was faced with a multimillion dollar deficit that forced staff cuts and increased class sizes.

The school system has responded to SACS by claiming in a letter of changes that have ben instituted since Superintendent Cheryl Atkinson has been in charge since being hired in 2011.

The letter lists that a forensic audit of the district's books has been completed, according to the report.

The SACS team is expected to be in DeKalb for the week.
