Eighty-one-year-old Marilyn Johnson Schmitz has been charged with DUI and may have fractured ribs and vertebrae from a multi-car collision that occurred late Friday night on Roswell Road.
According to the police report, Schmitz, who lives in Dunwoody, was not wearing a seat belt. The report said her speech was slurred and a breath test indicated a blood alcohol content level of .161. Police also found an unsealed bottle of Jack Daniels in Schmitz’s purse.
Schmitz was driving south on Roswell Road just past Hightower Trail, about 11:30 p.m., Friday, when she rear-ended a car. Her black Mercury Mountaineer crossed into the northbound lanes and struck another vehicle head-on and then hit a utility pole before landing on its side.
Sandy Springs firefighters had to carefully picked apart the Mountaineer to free Schmitz, placing large pieces of the vehicle to the side.
