Dunwoody Police Crime Tip: Be Wary of Solicitations

Check out an online tool for verifying the charitable status of an organization.

Dunwoody Police recently stopped a man on Ashford Dunwoody Road who was soliciting donations for what he said was a football team. The man had no material to back it up, police reported.

There have been other reports of suspicious solicitations in town.

Police are advising people to be wary of people asking for donations on the phone, at people's doors and around town.

Get specifics about how money will be used, they say. And remember that there are disreputable charities that donate little money to the cause that they are fundraising for.

An online tool that can be useful to people wanting to check on the charitable status of an organization is GuideStar Charity Check, which offers basic information for free about charitable organization.
