Did Dunwoody PD Look Into Andrea Sneiderman During Investigation?

Police officials say that they were focused on Hemy Neuman, the gunman eventually convicted of killing Russell Sneiderman, her husband.

A Channel 2 report wrote a scathing article this week about Dunwoody PD failing to consder Andrea Sniderman, eventually a suspect in her husband's murder, and instead investigated the convicted killer, Hemy Neuman.

Andrea has since been arrested, but Duwnoody PD took a hit from the DeKalb DA team, according to the Channel 2 report. "By the time the police got to where they need to make an arrest, a lot of evidence was lost," he said.

The Dunwoody PD are staying away from this one - refusing to tell their side of the story. On Friday, Sgt. Mike Carlson, department spokesman, said the case is now out of Dunwoody PDs hands.

"At this time there is nothing," he said. "My comment is that this case is with the DA's office. Anything related to Sneiderman has to go through the DA."

Police Chief Billy Grogan replied to a question from Channel 2 about whether Sniederman was suspected eartly in the investigation, and he answered bluntly. "Not seriously, no."

However the media savvy PD has gone to Facebook to take up the matter directly with their thousands of followers. So far, the finger-pointing has been squarely pointed at Dunwoody PD for not interviewing Sneiderman more aggressively.

Some kinder excerpts:

Kim Leech wrote; I'm sure they have bucket loads of evidence...All Hemy (Nueman's) technology would have been seized.. and im sure he and Andrea were still in contact with each other right up to his arrest! There will still be plenty of damning evidence yet to come.

Bac to the case, Dunwoody police apprehended the shooter and now convicted murderer, Hemy Neuman, just six weeks (here's a timeline of the case) after he shot and killed Rusty Sneiderman, outside a city day care.

Sneiderman was arrested last week in connection with her husband's death. She is being held in the DeKalb County Jail awaiting an August 21 bond hearing.

Her indictment lists perjury at trial that possbily obscured a possible affair with Hemy Neuman. She denied this to both prosecutors and defense attorneys throughout the trial. Each count of perjury can lead to 10 years in jail.

Alright Duwnoody PD arrested Neuman in 6 weeks. Andrea was not a suspect at the time. You think someone screwed up?

More importantly, perhaps, she denied an affair, so how could police make that connection until it came out at trial?

But, maybe I watch too many crime procedurals - but isn't the spouse always the first focus.

Most importantly, she wasn't the gunman. She did not directly shoot anyone. I think that's getting lost in jumping on Dunwoody PD. They focused on a aman who actively killed someone.

Looks like Dunwoody PD is hiding their head in the sand on this one. They would receive a lot more respect if they would simply admit their error which is obvious.

Jason,

careful, uncharted water here. No one dares publicly question our police department. What's next - questioning the moon landing? Aside from this major screw up by the local PD, I still think the chief needs to apologize for failing to reprimand the officer(s) who failed to find that 911 caller from the fatal fire. Had the police officer actually gotten out of his car and put forth some effort, that lady may be alive today. Instead Grogan pointed fingers elsewhere and no one dared call him out on it. Glad you are bringing out this issue in public jason.

I saw no less than four police officers assisting with the charity run today on Womack Road. officers were doing a good job. Now if we could get that same service at the elementary schools in the morning....... Chief can find time for officers to protect adult runners at a charity event and protect people picking pears and write tickets on 285 but no way does he have resources to park a car and have an officer on the street at schools

Rob,

My bad. I forgot you are the one and only know-it-all in Dunwoody. It was you alone who called out the police on the fatal fire issue. No one has ever mentioned it until you posted a comment on Patch a week ago. No one ever even discussed it, ever. Thanks for bringing it to the readers here. Hey I like good clean fun differences of opinions. It's a great part of this site. Just be civil - which you have been - w/o crossing any lines. Just a happy Saturday observation.

PD got the shooter and turned case over to DA, resulting in a conviction. Sounds like excellent police work to me. The trial flushed out more about Andrea. Good work by DA team. I don't know why people are making such a fuss. It's not like TV where everything is cleared up in an hour

From where I sit, the Dunwoody police only aggressively pursue 'crimes' that bring fines (money) to the City of Dunwoody (mostly traffic & DUI violations).

BTW, someone might want to proof this article. It has a lot of typos.

This past Sunday, the DPD arrested a woman for "Walking on 285" .. What ever happened to sending someone like this down the road rather than tying up three patrol cars for hours?
