DeKalb School Board to Vote on Atkinson Separation Agreement

A statement has just been released by the DeKalb County School District:
The DeKalb County Board of Education and Superintendent Dr. Cheryl Atkinson have mutually agreed to end their relationship effective Friday, February 8, 2013. The Board and Dr. Atkinson each determined and believe that it is in the best interest of all concerned that there be a mutual separation and they wish each other well in all their future endeavors.

Cheryl Atkinson's tenure as superintendent of the DeKalb County school system is apparently coming to an end.
Channel 2 Action News is reporting that DeKalb's board of education will vote on a separation agreement with Atkinson on Friday.
The board is set to meet at 4 pm.
A copy of the meeting's agenda obtained by Patch shows the item on the board's agenda, as well as an authorization for a contract for an interim superintendent.

Speculation has been mounting over the past week that Atkinson's tenure might be coming to an end, as the DeKalb school board continues to remain accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges.

Mr. Dean, if Rep. Mike Jacobs, Rep. Tom Taylor, and Sen. Fran Millar can create a city of Brookhaven, do you think they can utilize their influence to rally the troops to demand changes in DCSS? And, shouldn’t they have been concentrating their extracurricular influential activities on reforming DeKalb and DCSS anyway? When we REALLY need them they are always Missing In Action . . .
The inability to make the necessary changes to DeKalb government and school system really disturbs me. More disturbing is the lack of support by our elected officials and their continued focus on destroying DeKalb with more government.
Sen. Fran Millar thinks we need a new taxpayer supported stadium in Atlanta, but he ignores his constituents.
I’m going to pass on that special hamburger this evening . . .

Again, I will say that all who are concerned about the present and future state of affairs for DCSS should lobby state senators and representatives for the Dunwoody, Chamblee and Brookhaven districts to change the constitution to allow for charter cluster school systems. Brookhaven-Chamblee Unified Charter School System has a nice ring to it.
