Chambliss Not Running for Reelection. Will Next Senator Come From Dunwoody?
Would Tom Price, who represents portions of Dunwoody and Sandy Springs, be a good candidate for U.S. Senate?
Citing a lack of bipartisanship that he covered with the Sandy Springs/Perimeter Chamber of Commerce last year, U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss announced on Friday that he is not seeking re-election in 2014.
“This is about frustration, both at a lack of leadership from the White House and at the dearth of meaningful action from Congress, especially on issues that are the foundation of our nation’s economic health," Chambliss said in a statement. "The debt-ceiling debacle of 2011 and the recent fiscal-cliff vote showed Congress at its worst and, sadly, I don’t see the legislative gridlock and partisan posturing improving anytime soon.
"For our nation to be strong, for our country to prosper, we cannot continue to play politics with the American economy.
In a speech before the Sandy Springs/Perimeter Chamber of Commerce in May 2012, Chambliss cited a need for bipartisanship on Capitol Hill.
“Republicans don’t have all the good ideas. Democrats have some good ideas too,” he said at the meeting. “Bipartisanship is needed.”
Patch wants to know: who should run for Chambliss' seat? What about U.S. Rep. Tom Price, who represents portions of Dunwoody and Sandy Springs in his 6th Congressional District?

Good riddance to Hack Chambliss. And by all means; lets replace him with the ethically-challenged Price. Then we can get corruption, plus an atavistic, reactionary jeezus-bleating, gun-tot'n, war-mongering teabagger to fill out the team.

How ironic, the Patch posts an article on Senator Chambliss’ plans to retire in which he decries the partisanship in politics today and as if on cue, the very first comment to the article demonstrates in spades that there is such a lack of civility in our public discourse that it is nearly impossible to get anything done. While I don’t always agree with Senator Chambliss, I think he is a good man who tries to do the right thing for the country and for his constituents and his votes represent his constituency well. I appreciate his service just as I appreciate Congressman Tom Price’s service and when I do disagree, I find it is best to argue the point. I think Congressman Price would represent Georgia well in the United States Senate and I would certainly support him if he were to run. I would also be very pleased if Karen Handel would consider running for Congress.
