Austin Elementary to Expand to 900 Students
The DeKalb Board of Education has approved a new construction plan that impacts one of Dunwoody's schools.
Austin Elementary will grow to 900 students under a new construction plan adopted on Wednesday by the DeKalb Board of Education.
By a vote of 6-3, the school board approved a construction plan that calls for the expansion of five elementaries to 900 students, including Austin Elementary.
According to the AJC, the facilities plan, which will be partially funded by local sales tax revenue, also calls for nearby Chamblee High School to expand to 1,600 students.
The final plan adopted by the board did not call for any school closures or major changes to school boundaries.
Late last year, DeKalb School Superintendent Dr. Cheryl Atkinson unveiled a plan that included several school closings and shifts in attendance lines, which prompted outrage from numerous communities and school advocacy groups throughout the county.
